R.E.P.O. Multiplayer: Co-op, Player Count & Crossplay

Everything about R.E.P.O. multiplayer: how many players can join, how to invite friends through Steam, crossplay and console status, and whether splitscreen exists. The logistics, answered.

Quick Answer

R.E.P.O. is online co-op for up to 6 players (1–6). It is PC-only on Steam, so there is no crossplay and no console version yet. You play with friends by hosting a lobby and inviting them through the Steam overlay — there is no splitscreen or local co-op, and no dedicated servers (one player hosts peer-to-peer). A solo singleplayer mode is also available.

No

Local / Splitscreen

Pick "Singleplayer" from the menu to run solo. It is harder without teammates to carry valuables and revive you.

How to Play R.E.P.O. Multiplayer With Friends

R.E.P.O. uses Steam invites — no account linking or friend codes needed. Four steps to get a co-op lobby going:

1

Open the game and pick Host Game

From the main menu select "Host Game" to create your own lobby. This makes you the host — your PC runs the session, so a stable internet connection matters.

2

Press Invite to open the Steam overlay

Click the "Invite" button in the lobby. The Steam friends overlay opens so you can pick who joins. Friends must be on your Steam friends list first.

3

Friends accept the invite

Your friends receive a Steam notification. They click it to drop straight into your lobby. They can also open the Steam overlay (Shift + Tab), find you, and click "Join Game".

4

Start the run together

Once everyone is in the truck, the host starts the run. All players load into the same level to grab valuables, dodge monsters, and hit the quota as a team.

Tip: The host carries the session. Whoever has the most stable internet and best PC should host to avoid lag and disconnects.

Crossplay, Consoles & Platforms

R.E.P.O. is a PC exclusive on Steam, and that single platform shapes everything about its multiplayer:

  • No crossplay — there are no console or mobile versions to connect with. Everyone is on Steam.
  • No PS5, PS4, Xbox, or Switch release has been confirmed by Semiwork.
  • Steam Deck players can join PC lobbies normally since the Deck runs the same Steam build.
  • No platform linking, EOS/Epic account, or friend code is required — just Steam friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many players can play R.E.P.O.?

R.E.P.O. supports one to six players in a single co-op lobby. You and up to five friends can team up to extract valuables and survive together. If you want bigger groups, the community "More Players" mod raises the cap well beyond six, but every player in the lobby must install the same mod for it to work.

Does R.E.P.O. have crossplay?

There is no crossplay because R.E.P.O. only exists on PC via Steam. There are no console versions to cross-play with. Every player connects through Steam, so as long as your friends own the game on Steam you can all play together regardless of which PC or operating system they use.

How do I play R.E.P.O. with friends?

Launch the game, choose "Host Game", then click "Invite" to open the Steam friends overlay and select who joins. Friends can also right-click you in their Steam friends list and choose "Join Game", or use the Steam overlay (Shift + Tab) in-game. Add each other on Steam first — invites only work between Steam friends.

Can I join random or public lobbies?

R.E.P.O. is built around playing with friends through direct Steam invites rather than open matchmaking, so the most reliable way to fill a lobby is to coordinate with people you know. If you do not have friends to play with, Discord LFG channels and the r/REPOgame subreddit are the usual places players find squads.

Is there splitscreen or local co-op?

No. R.E.P.O. is online co-op only — there is no splitscreen, shared-screen, or local multiplayer. Each person needs their own copy of the game and their own PC. You cannot pass a controller around on one machine; all six players connect over the internet through the host.

Are there dedicated servers?

No, R.E.P.O. uses peer-to-peer hosting, not dedicated servers. One player is the host and their connection runs the session. For the smoothest game, the person with the best internet and PC should host. If the host disconnects, the run usually ends, so pick a stable host before a long session.

Will R.E.P.O. come to PS5 or Xbox?

As of now R.E.P.O. is PC-only and the developer Semiwork has not confirmed a console release. The game is in early access and the focus is on building out the PC version. A console port could come later, but there is no official date. For more, see our platforms guide covering PS5, Xbox, and Steam Deck.

Can I play R.E.P.O. alone?

Yes. Select "Singleplayer" from the main menu to skip the lobby and start a solo run. Be aware the game is balanced around teamwork — carrying fragile valuables, reviving downed players, and distracting monsters are all easier with a crew. Solo is a tougher, lonelier experience, but it is fully playable.
