R.E.P.O. Controls & Keybinds (Keyboard + Controller)

Every default keyboard and mouse control in R.E.P.O., how to rebind them, the push-to-talk key, and how controller support works through Steam Input.

Quick Answer

R.E.P.O. uses standard mouse-and-keyboard controls: WASD to move, Space to jump, Shift to sprint, Ctrl to crouch, Q to tumble, Left Click to grab, Right Click to rotate, E to interact, Tab for the map, T for chat, and V for push-to-talk. You can rebind everything in Settings › Controls. There is no native controller support, but you can play with a controller (or Steam Deck) via Steam Input.

R.E.P.O. Keyboard Controls — Movement

These are the default movement keybinds. All of them can be changed in the Controls menu.

W A S D

Move forward, left, back, and right.

Spacebar

Jump. Also used to climb small ledges when combined with movement.

Shift

Sprint. Burns stamina fast — upgrade Stamina early so you can run longer. Can be set to hold or toggle in settings.

Ctrl

Crouch. Helps you stay stealthy and slip under obstacles. Can be set to hold or toggle.

Q

Tumble — ragdoll on purpose to squeeze through gaps, drop down safely, or dodge. Falling with style.

R.E.P.O. Keybinds — Interaction, Map & Voice

Grabbing and rotating objects is the heart of R.E.P.O., so most of these binds run through the mouse.

Left Click

Grab and hold items, valuables, and carts. Hold to keep carrying; release to drop.

Right Click

Rotate a held item so it fits through doorways or stacks neatly on the cart.

E

Interact — use items, activate buttons, buy at the Service Station, and confirm prompts.

Scroll Up / Down

Push a held object away (scroll up) or pull it toward you (scroll down) to manage distance and weight.

Tab

Open the map. Shows extraction points, entrances, and where you and teammates are.

T

Open text chat. You cannot move while typing, so type in a safe spot.

V

Push-to-talk for proximity voice chat by default. Can be disabled or rebound in the settings.

How to Rebind Controls in R.E.P.O.

Every key and mouse button can be remapped in four quick steps:

1

Open the pause menu

Press Escape during a run or from the main lobby to bring up the menu.

2

Go to Settings › Controls

Select Settings, then the Controls tab, to see the full list of bindings.

3

Click a binding and press a new key

Click the action you want to change, then press the key or mouse button you would rather use. It saves instantly.

4

Toggle hold vs. tap where offered

Sprint and crouch can be switched between hold and toggle. Push-to-talk can be turned off if you prefer open mic.

R.E.P.O. Controller Support

R.E.P.O. is a mouse-and-keyboard game and does not officially support controllers. Here is how players use one anyway:

  1. In Steam, right-click R.E.P.O. → Properties → Controller, and enable Steam Input.
  2. Open the Controller Layout and map buttons to the keyboard keys above (WASD, Space, Shift, Ctrl, E, Q).
  3. Map a stick or trackpad to the mouse so you can aim, grab (Left Click) and rotate (Right Click).
  4. Or browse the Steam Workshop / community layouts and apply a ready-made R.E.P.O. controller profile.

Heads up: most controller layouts leave text chat (T) and push-to-talk (V) unmapped, so keep the keyboard within reach for talking to teammates. The same Steam Input method is how R.E.P.O. runs on Steam Deck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you rebind controls in R.E.P.O.?

Yes. Open the pause menu with Escape, go to Settings and then the Controls tab, click any binding, and press the new key or button. Every movement, interaction, and voice-chat key can be remapped, and changes save immediately. Sprint and crouch also let you choose between hold and toggle behavior, which is handy on longer runs when your hand gets tired holding Shift.

Does R.E.P.O. have controller support?

R.E.P.O. has no official native controller support in Early Access — it is built around mouse and keyboard, because grabbing, rotating, and pushing physics objects rely on the mouse. You can still use a controller through Steam Input by mapping buttons to keyboard keys, and there are community layouts on the Steam Workshop. Just note that these workarounds usually leave text chat and push-to-talk without a mapped button.

What is the push-to-talk key and can I change it?

By default V is push-to-talk for proximity voice chat — hold it to be heard by nearby teammates. You can rebind it in Settings › Controls, or disable push-to-talk entirely if you would rather use an open mic. Because R.E.P.O. uses proximity voice, your teammates only hear you clearly when you are close, which is part of the game's comedy and tension.

How do you grab and rotate items?

Hold Left Click to grab an item, valuable, or cart, and keep the button held to carry it. Use Right Click to rotate the held object so it fits through tight doorways or stacks safely. Scroll up to push it farther from you and scroll down to pull it closer — useful for heavy or fragile valuables you do not want to bump into a wall.

What does the Q (tumble) key do?

Q makes your character tumble — a deliberate ragdoll. It is used to drop down ledges without taking full fall damage, squeeze through gaps, or fling yourself out of a monster's reach. It is also a big part of the game's slapstick humor. You can rebind it, but most players leave it on Q since it is easy to reach while moving.

Does R.E.P.O. work on Steam Deck?

R.E.P.O. runs on Steam Deck, and because there is no native controller support you play using Steam Input with the Deck acting as a keyboard-and-mouse device. Community control layouts make this easier by mapping the trackpads and buttons to grab, interact, and movement. Expect to spend a few minutes tuning the layout, especially for aiming the mouse cursor used to grab and rotate objects.

Why can't I move while I'm in the menu or chat?

Movement is locked while text chat (T) or the pause menu (Escape) is open, so you cannot walk and type at the same time. This is why experienced players duck into a safe corner before opening chat. Voice chat (V) does not lock movement, so use push-to-talk to communicate on the run and save text chat for typing commands or when you are somewhere secure.
